Tummy Tuck in Tampa Bay

Tummy Tuck in Tampa Bay After achieving the difficult task of losing weight, you may be plagued by excess abdominal skin that hangs in folds around your abdomen area. The tummy tuck is a procedure that eliminates excess skin and fat while tightening weakened abdominal muscles.

What is a Tummy Tuck?

Following dramatic weight loss, there may be a leftover area of stubborn fatty deposits and sagging skin around your midsection. The fatty tissue stubbornly persists in spite of diet and exercise. Genetics may also play a role in how easily your body can eliminate these bulges. Dr. Azharian has extensive experience and expertise in performing a tummy tuck, a surgical procedure medically known as an abdominoplasty, which is designed to eliminate excess pockets of fat and loose skin from the midsection resulting in a more youthful and toned body contour.

How Do I Know if I’m a Good Candidate for a Tummy Tuck?

During your initial consultation, Dr. Azharian will evaluate your abdominal area, diet and lifestyle habits, family history, and cosmetic goals in order to determine whether or not you may be a good candidate for a tummy tuck. Dr. Azharian may recommend the tummy tuck procedure to address any of the following characteristics:

  • Excess skin or fatty pockets around the midsection or abdominal area
  • A protruding or sagging belly that is not in proportion with the rest of your body
  • Weakened or separated abdominal muscles after pregnancy or dramatic weight loss

Considerations

As is the case with all cosmetic procedures, patients should be non-smokers who enjoy generally good health and maintain a balanced lifestyle, including proper diet and exercise, in order to obtain and realistically maintain ideal results from a tummy tuck. Please note, however, that a tummy tuck is not a weight reduction procedure. Patients must have already undergone their desired weight loss prior to undergoing the tummy tuck procedure and should be within a few pounds of their ideal weight.

How is the Tummy Tuck Performed?

Dr. Azharian performs two types of tummy tuck procedures — the full tummy tuck and partial tummy tuck. The full tummy tuck is typically ideal for those who have fatty deposits in larger areas above and below the navel, while a partial tummy tuck is for those who have fatty deposits only in the area of the lower belly, beneath the navel. General anesthesia is used to keep you relaxed and comfortable during the procedure.

The tummy tuck procedure involves an incision that extends from one hip to the other, through which Dr. Azharian extracts fat and excess skin and tightens the abdominal muscles using self-dissolving sutures. The incision is then sutured shut and covered with bandages. The procedure does leave a scar on your abdomen, however, Dr. Azharian carefully camouflages the scar so that it is typically hidden under bikini bottoms and undergarments.

Can I See Tummy Tuck Before and After Photos?

Dr. Azharian understands the importance of realistically visualizing the outcome of your tummy tuck procedure. The before and after section of our website provides photos of real results from some of our tummy tuck patients so that you can have a clear idea of what to expect from the procedure.

Reclaim your body with a tummy tuck

Many of us are familiar with the cosmetic benefits of tummy tuck surgery. Also known as abdominoplasty, a tummy tuck is a surgical procedure that tightens stomach muscles and helps eliminate excess skin (or belly overhang) and abdominal creases. Because the surgery is designed to result in a flatter and more toned stomach, patients typically opt for this procedure after pregnancy or after they’ve lost a significant amount of weight in a short time period. It’s an immensely popular surgery with numbers to back it up.

Tummy Tuck in Tampa Bay FAQ

Are there any follow up visits?

Post operatively, you will have frequent visits to evaluate your progress and provide further instructions to help you through your recovery phase.

Is tummy tuck suitable for weight loss?

It is important to understand that an abdominoplasty is not a weight loss procedure, rather a skin removal and muscle tightening procedure. To achieve optimal results you need to be at or close to your ideal weight. This procedure can give you amazing results, and as long as your weight remains stable, the effects of an abdominoplasty are permanent.

What is I still want to have more children?

This procedure is not appropriate for individuals who plan to have more children in the future.
